Join us at the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society's Museum of Medical History!  The museum showcases artifacts including a working iron lung, medical and dental equipment from years gone by, Civil War amputation kits, quackery devices, patent medicines (including some with cocaine) and Chinese medicine. It is also home to an extensive library containing medical textbooks and journals dating back to the 1800s.  The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and staff have offered to turn on the iron lung before our Sac County OES volunteers take a free self-guided tour.  Shifts are listed in 2 hour increments below to give participating members hours and to give the our volunteer program and Museum leadership an idea of when members plan to participate.  Your self-guided tour can be any length of time that works for you.  There is a large parking lot behind the museum. Before or after your visit, stop by for a meal at Dos Coyotes from noon - 8 p.m., at 6450 Folsom Blvd (Folsom and 65th) which is only 1.7 miles away.  The Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps Foundation is holding a fundraiser on 7/21 for our SMRC program and 20% of purchases made between noon and 8 p.m.  will be donated - just tell them before you order that you are there for the SMRC Foundation fundraiser.  Your help with making this fundraiser a success is appreciated!

Join the SMRC to staff first aid stations along the race route of the CA International Marathon (CIM) from Folsom to the CA State Capitol!  This annual event is very popular, inspirational, and fun!  Medical and non-medical SMRC members are welcome.  Note - This opportunity is to get the event on your calendars. You may have heard reports that the number of runners for the CIM will double this year but race leadership has reported that is false - Race numbers will be the same as last year.

The official registration will be open in late August and I will send out the link to sign up.  If you receive(d) a message from Race Safe Join Us - CIM Volunteer Registration is now open, ignore it, and also ignore any volunteer recruitment messages that come from SRA/CIM. Those are generic messages sent to all former CIM volunteers in all roles and is not the registration for the medical team.  You will receive the CIM first aid team sign up link directly from me via Get Connected in late August.  Through the link I send, you will be able to select the aid station location that you would like to volunteer.  Shifts will vary depending on location but all start early morning and run 2-7 hours depending on aid station location.  

Registration will close on November 18th.

Volunteer Orientation will be on Tuesday night,  December 1st, at 6 pm over Zoom or a similar platform.

Do you like to plan events and get togethers?  The SMRC Foundation is looking for SMRC members to work on setting up and promoting fundraisers at restaurants. These events will be a great opp for SMRC members to get together for a fun social experience while raising funds to support our SMRC! 

Welcome Sacramento Medical Reserve Corps members!  This is a sign-up exercise for a mock disaster response event - a tidal wave came up the Sacramento River to Waterlogged Park in Sacramento. 

Sharing this opportunity below for a volunteer Camp Nurse. Might be a great opportunity for newly licensed RNs who are awaiting for jobs or retired licensed nurses?

We are reaching out for assistance and are looking for a potential camp nurse. We are a 100% volunteer, all-female organization, staffed by women in STEM fields, so we are looking for a female nurse to staff the camp. There is a good stipend, room and board, mileage, and all related supplies are covered. 

Our nurse candidate needs to commit to the entire program/entire week.

The stipend is $1500, and room and board are fully provided, along with all necessary materials, parking, etc. 

Nurse arrives Sat. morning, July 11, with other staff for setup and prep at the dorm building at UCD.

The campers arrive on Sunday, and the nurse collects their meds from their parents.

And everyone goes home Saturday, July 18, at midday.

The nurse also needs to be available to attend a few Zoom training sessions in the months prior to camp and, along with the Camp Directors, review the camp roster of campers and staff to identify any medical issues that may require accommodations.
